Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 91.000 people got vaccinated (more than 55.000 with both doses). Totally, more than 3.4 million got vaccinated with more than 2.1 getting both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 1.564 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 142 deaths and in ICU there are now 1.121 people hospitalized.
  • The president and the prime-minister are visiting the military centre in Constanta. President Klaus Iohannis and prime-minister Florin Citu are visiting, today, the COVID-19 vaccination centre from the Emergency Military Hospital `Dr. Alexandru Gafencu` from Constanta. The vaccination centers of the military hospitals from Brasov, Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara are opened 24/24, starting Tuesday, for everyone who wants to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Global political and military events

  • Violent protests in Columbia. At least 24 people have died during the clashes between the police and the protesters and other 87 people were hurt or are missing.
  • Local elections in Scotland, a test for independence. The Brits’ vote in Thursday’s local elections is a test for the unity of the United Kingdom, says AP, as the separatists hope to get the victory in Scotland and then organize a self-determination referendum.
  • The uncontrolled Chinese rocket enters the atmosphere, on Saturday. The US Secretary of State, Lloyd Austin, said that the uncontrolled Chinese rocket will enter the atmosphere on Saturday. China has launched on Thursday the first of the three elements of its space station, which propelled a Long March 5b rocket.
  • Germany will not give up the Nord Stream 2 project. The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the German Foreign Affairs Minister Heiko Maas could not get to an agreement on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the discussions they had at the G7 reunion in London, says AP.
  • The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is visiting Ukraine. Antony Blinken will meet, on Thursday, with Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss the security situation in the region, says AP.
  • China suspends the economic activities with Australia. The Commission for the Development and Reform in China decided to suspend, starting Thursday, all economic relations with Australia developed in the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue format, blaming the hostile attitude of Morrison’s government.

Romania’s defence and security

  • Nicolae Ciuca participates at the Foreign Affairs Council with Defence ministers. Minister Nicolae Ciuca is participating, on Thursday, in Brussels, at the Foreign Affairs Council Reunions in the Defence ministers’ format, the Director Committee of the European Defence Agency and the Committee of the EU’s Satellite Center.  This reunion will focus on the strategic orientation tool – the Strategic Compass, mainly on crisis management.
  • The Moreni Mechanical Facility has a new administration board. None of the new members of the administration board, Daniel Sava – finances, Patricia Vasile – audit and Mihai Rus – engineer and audit competence  - has military experience. In 2020, the company had turnover of 13.7 million lei and loses worth of 7.4 million lei, says Agerpress.
