Coronavirus and vaccines
- Vaccination in Romania: More than 1.022.000 people got vaccinated (more than 619.000 with both doses). In the last 24 hours, more than 38.000 people got vaccinated (more than 600 with both doses).
- Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 4.278 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 77 deaths and in ICU there are 1.023 people.
- Joe Biden is criticizing Texas for not wearing a mask anymore: “A Neanderthal thinking”. Starting next week, in Texas, the mask will no longer be mandatory, and the authorities will not be able to arrest those not wearing it. The measure is not welcomed by all Texans.
Global political and military events
- Israel is accusing Iran of an environment attack. Israel has accused on Wednesday Iran for conducting an “environment attack” after the sea waves have flooded with tar its Mediterranean Sea coasts, a pollution caused, said the Environment Minister, Gila Gamliel, by a ship coming from Iran, says AP.
- Terrorist attack in Sweden. A young man has stubbed eight people on the street. After quickly getting to that place, the policemen have shot the attacker, a 20 years old boy who is now hospitalized and carefully supervised by the police.
- Bloody day in Myanmar. The UN ambassador to Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener, says that 38 people have died on Wednesday in this country, in the bloodiest day since the military coup, says AFP and BBC.
- Germany is joining the US alliance against China. At US’s request, the German government has announced, on Wednesday, that in August a warship will join the coalition led by the US and will sail in the South China Sea.
Romania’s defence and security
- The chiefs of the County Police Inspectorate and the Onesti Police will be replaced. The Home Affairs Minister, Lucian Bode, has announced that the chiefs of the County Police Inspectorate and the Onesti Police chief and his deputy will be replaced after the hostage situation that took place on Monday and ended with the death of two people.
