Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: More than 1.9 million people were vaccinated (more than 1 million with both doses). In the last 24 hours, more than 52.000 people got vaccinated (more than 28.000 with both doses).
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 3.825 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 120 deaths and in ICU there are now 1.398 people hospitalized.
  • Pfizer and Moderna US study. The US Centre for the Disease Prevention and Control came up with a study on 3.950 people. The SARS CoV-2 infection has decreased with 90% for the people who got vaccinated with one of the two vaccines. Even after the first Pfizer dose only, the risk got reduced with 80%. The Centre’s Director, dr. Rochele Walensky, seemed extremely enthusiastic with the results, says Mediafax.
  • Klaus Iohannis signed the Treaty on the pandemics together with other 24 global leaders. Leaders from 23 countries, the president of the European Council and the WHO director, have asked on Tuesday, in a common effort, the elaboration of an international treaty on pandemics to face the future sanitarian crises, says AP. The treaty project is based on the International Sanitarian Regulation, a legal tool adopted in 2005, says the quoted source.

Global political and military events

  • Israel. President Reuven Rivlin has stated on Monday that he will appoint a prime-minister until April 7th in order to create the new government, says AP. After the elections, no party got a majority: the Likud Party (right) of prime-minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the first place, with 30 out of 120 positions in the parliament, followed by the Yesh Atid party  of his rival, Yair Lapid, that got 17.
  • US cancels commercial relations with Myanmar. The Joseph Biden Administration will cancel the commercial relations with Myanmar, due to repressions committed in this country by the military regime which took over the country’s leadership, said, on Monday, the US representative for Commerce, Katherine Tai, according to Mediafax.
  • Iran stands with Russia and China. Iran will sign a cooperation agreement with Russia, after signing a long-term agreement with China, according to AP. The statement belongs to the chief of foreign affairs commission from the Iranian Parliament, Mojtaba Zolnur. He said that their agreements will help the country avoid Western sanctions.

Romania’s defence and security

  • The Tarom fleet will be reduced by 25%. The Minister of Transports, Catalin Drula, has stated on Monday that he is working on a restructuration plan for Tarom, which includes the standardization of the fleet and personnel’s decrease. “They are intensely working on a restructuration plan, both in writing and in terms of actions. The plan involves a standardization of the fleet, will stay with a smeller fleet, about three quarters of the current dimension, and the personnel’s decrease”, said the Minister of Transports, according to Digi24.
  • The gas entered the top three first energy production resources in Romania.  The gas became the third force in the local energy system, with a 18.17% weighting after hydro, with 29%, and nuclear, with almost 21%. The coal delivered last year 16.5% of Romania’s energy, followed by the green energy with 15.4%, says Mediafax.
