Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 51.000 people got vaccinated (more than 36.000 with both doses). Totally, more than 4.3 million people got the vaccine, with more than 3.5 getting both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 241 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 41 deaths and in ICU there are now 410 people hospitalized.
  • Starting today, kids aged 12 or more can also get the vaccine. The vaccination plan and the scheduling options are similar to those used by adults and the authorized vaccine is Comirnaty, produced by BioNTech/Pfizer. It is mandatory to have the approval of parents or legal guardian.

Global political and military events

  • Russia does not believe in diplomacy. Russia does not believe the diplomatic plan of the Putin-Biden summit, to take place in Geneva, on June 16th, will work, said the Russian diplomacy chief, Sergei Lavrov. “We are under no illusions and we are not trying to create the impression that there will be big changes or some kind of historic or significant decision”, said Sergei Lavrov, after an online meeting with this BRICS counterparts (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), said AP, quoted by Agerpress.
  • Belarus prohibits its citizens to go abroad. In a message posted on Tuesday on Telegram, quoted by Agerpress, the Border Police Service in Belarus indicated that only `citizens who have a document attesting their permanent stay in a foreign state’ have the right to leave Belarus, adding that ‘a temporary stay permission is not a reason for someone to travel abroad’.
  • The EU imposes new sanctions on Belarus. The European Union plans new sanctions for the national air company in Belarus and 12 aviation officials, said three European diplomats, quoted by Reuters, as a temporary measure before imposing economic sanctions to target key sectors in the Byelorussian economy. The worsening of the relations Belarus follows the international scandal on the recent hijack of a Ryanair flight and the detainment of dissident Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend, Sofia Sapega.
  • Malaysia is protesting after 16 Chinese military aircrafts entered its EEZ. The Malaysia Foreign Affairs Ministry has sent, on Tuesday, a protest notification and asks the Chinese ambassador explanations for the 16 military aircrafts which entered the EEZ for more than 100km, says AP.
  • A new cyber attack in the US against one of the biggest meat producer. The biggest meat producer in the work was the target of a cyber attack. JBS from Brazil warned the US government about the incident. It is also a ransomware attack and the organization believed to be behind this attack is from Russia. JBS has companies in the United Stated and the Tuesday shifts were cancelled. Three thousand employees were affected. The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, confirmed the incident and said that the FBI is investigating the case, says Mediafax.

Romania’s defence and security

  • Prime-minister Citu is presenting the NRRP. Prime minister Florin Citu is presenting on Wednesday, at Victoria Palace, the NRRP together with vice prime-minister Dan Barna, vice prime minister Kelemen Hunor and the minister of Investments and European Projects Cristian Ghinea, said the Government.
  • President Iohannis is participating at the debate `Let`s talk about Europe`s future`. President Klaus Iohannis is participating, on Wednesday, at an online debate organized by the Group of European People`s Party from the European Parliament, called `Let`s talk about Europe`s future`, said the Presidential Administration.
