Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 32.000 people got vaccinated (more than 18.000 with both doses). Totally, more than 4.5 million people got the vaccine, with more than 4,2 getting both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 103 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 10 deaths and in ICU there are now 202 people hospitalized.

Global political and military events

  • US-Russia summit. The US president Joe Biden will meet, today, in Geneva, the Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The reunion will have two sessions and will last 4-5 hours, says CNN. The two leaders will discuss Europe’s security, the arms control, civilians’ support in the conflicts wherein Russia is involved (Libya, Syria).
  • The US and EU will reactivate the transatlantic partnership. The United States and the European Union will relaunch the transatlantic partnership by establishing a bilateral agenda in the post-pandemic period, as in to support the international order based on rules and the intensification of trade cooperation and security, said the White House, after the US-EU summit.
  • The Gaza conflict reignited. The Israeli armed forces have launched, last night, air strikes as a response to the fire balloons launched from Gaza. The air strikes are the first in Gaza since the ceasefire was established, a month ago. They targeted the HAMAS military facilities and the meeting points of Khan Younis brigades. There were only material damages. The balloons were launched from Gaza as a protest against the provoking march of the Jerusalem flag, where thousands of Israelis walked through the Old City.
  • China-Taiwan. 28 Chinese military aircrafts entered, in a single day, on Tuesday, in the air defence identification zone of Taiwan, being the biggest incursion yet, says AP.
  • The US has lifted F-22 against Russian bombers. Two F-22 aircrafts from a Hawaii air base have intercepted many Russian bombers which are participating at the biggest military drill in the Pacific since the Cold War, says AP.

Romania’s defence and security

  • President Iohannis  is visiting Estonia. Klaus Iohannis is, on Wednesday and Thursday, in Estonia, Tallin, given the anniversary of the Romanian-Estonian diplomatic relations and the 30 years since the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations, as well as the constant dialogue from the last years.
  • Massive fire in Vaslui. A massive fire burst, on 1.000 square meters, on Tuesday evening, at a plastic tables deposit in Barlad administrative centre, says Agerpress.
  • Romania, Europe’s garbage dump. Another 25 tons of garbage were discovered in South Constanta Port Agigea, from Germany, said the Environment Guard.
