 Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 11.000 people got vaccinated (more than 6.000 with both doses). Totally, more than 4.7 million people got the vaccine, with more than 4,5 getting both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 33 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 3 deaths and in ICU there are now 67 people hospitalized.

Global political and military events

  • At least 50 deaths after a C-130 military aircraft crashed in Philippines. The Philippines authorities announced that at least 50 soldiers lost their lives after the 4th of July crash of a C-130 Hercules aircraft, which had 92 people on board.
  • Explosion at an Azerbaijani offshore oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea. A massive explosion followed by a fire took place on July 4th, in the Caspian Sea, in Azerbaijani’s coast, near the Umid gas field, says Mediafax. The authorities did not offer explanations about the cause of the incident.
  • Cyber attack in the US. President Joe Biden has stated that he does not know yet who is behind the attack on Kaseya company, which took place on Friday. The FBI announced that the attack’s victims, more than 1.000 companies, which were using the IT management company’s software will get support from the governmental agencies, says AP.
  • Commercial ship, attacked with missiles near Iran’s coasts. A cargo ship was attacked with missiles on Sunday near Iran’s coasts, which actually seems to be behind the attack, says Jerusalem Post. The ship was sold by an Israeli company two months ago, and on the ship there were no Isralis, also said JP.
  • The SAS troops will stay in Afghanistan. Even if on Sunday the British troops left Afghanistan, a small number of military from the SOF will stay in the country to counsel the Afghan security forces, says Daily Mail, quoting military sources. The final decision will be taken today by prime-minister Boris Johnson, at the National Security Council.
  • China wants to financially conquer Afghanistan. China prepared a 62 billion dollars plan for Afghanistan, within the Belt and Road program, says Daily Mail. Through this program, China wants to make a commercial hub between Europe, Middle East and Central Asia.

Romania’s defence and security

  • MFA, warning trip for Greece. The MFA warns the Romanian citizens who want to go to Greece that the local authorities gave a warning for Kefalonia Island due to a strong fire, says Mediafax. The fire is still active near Pastra, Kremmidi, Markopoulo, Katelios and Kato Katelios.
