Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: More than 800.000 Romanians got vaccinated (576.126 with both doses). In the last 24 hours, almost 30.000 people got vaccinated (13.354 with both doses).
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours 2.419 new coronavirus cases were recorded, 52 deaths and in ICU there are 968 people hospitalized.
  • The vaccination of education system’s employees is about to start. The minister of education has said, in a press release, that the vaccination of the education system’s employees might start this week, a decision to that end to be made on Monday.
  • The minister of Health is getting ready for the third wave of the pandemic. The minister of health is preparing for a third wave of the pandemic in Romania, assessing that there is a great possibility for the British variant of the coronavirus and the South-African one to be heavily spread in Romania, says Digi24. Andreea Moldovan, Ministry of Health’s Secretary of State said, for the above mentioned TV channel, that there are experts saying this third wave will affect Romania at the end of March – beginning of April.

Global political and military events

  • France has no place in South China Sea. The warning comes from the chinamail.com, which is criticizing France’s decision to join the military alliance created by the United States, Japan, Australia and India, to keep the navigation freedom in the region, after China has claimed most of the waters in South China Sea. France had a submarine in the region and a logistic support ship, and this year is planning on sending also an amphibious ship from the Mistral class and a frigate.
  • A military aircraft crashed in Mexico. Six people have died, on Sunday, after a military aircraft has crashed in east of Mexico, said, on Monday, Dpa. The Learjet 45 aircraft has crashed during the take-off from airport El Lencero in Emiliano Zapata district, in Veracruz state.
  • Algeria. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has dissolved, on Sunday, the National People’s Assembly and has reorganized the government to create new conditions for the early elections.
  • UN Security Council Reunion. At the initiative of prime-minister Boris Johnson, the UN Security Council is organizing, on Tuesday, a summit to discuss the effects of the climate change over world’s peace.
  • Failed attempt of murder in Libya. The Minister of Home Affairs from Libya, Fathi Bachagha, has survived, on Sunday, an attempt of murder, on a highway close to the capital Tripoli. Some individuals in an armored car opened fire at his car. A security agent was injured, an attacker was killed and two were arrested, says AP.

Romania’s defence and security

  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate to an EU reunion. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, is participating, on Monday, to a reunion of ministers of foreign affairs from the EU member states, which will take place in Bruxelles. The agenda of the activity includes discussions on the EU’s relations with Russia, the Hong Kong situation, the EU’s strategic plan and an online discussion with the new US State Secretary, Antony Blinken.
  • Fire risk at the Marius Nasta Institute. A smoke emission at the ICU mobile unit alerted the intervention teams on Sunday evening. The incident did not result in a fire, no one was injured and patients were moved.
  • Miners from Jiului Valley are threatening with hunger strike. Miners who got blocked underground at Lupeni mine are threatening with hunger strike, says Mediafax. Today, in Bucharest, negotiations are scheduled with unionist leaders from the Energy and Labor Ministries.
  • February 22nd – The International Day of Scouting. More than 40 million kids and young people, from around 200 states and territories, are going through this type of training. In Romania, there are around 3.500 scouts, organized in 79 branches, in 31 counties, weekly developing community activities, under the attentive observation of 800 adult volunteers, says scout.ro.
