Coronavirus and vaccines
- Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 15.000 people got vaccinated. Totally, more than 5 million people got the vaccine, with more than 4,9 getting both doses.
- Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 244 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 2 deaths, and in ICU there are now 72 people hospitalized.
- The US intelligence agencies are searching for genetic data from Wuhan laboratory to find out the COVID-19 origin. The US services are searching gor a catalogue with genetic data from the virus pattern studied in the Wuhan, China laboratory that some officials think it could be the pandemic’s source. No one knows for sure how or when the US intelligence agencies got access to these data.
Global political and military events
- Israel is ready for war. Israel is ready to launch a military attack against Iran, said, on Thursday, the Israeli defence minister, Benjamin Gantz, accusing the Tehran regime for creating many regional and global problems. (Aleph News)
- The US is asking Iran to resume the negotiations on the Nuclear Agreement relaunch. The Joseph Biden Administration asked Iran, on Thursday, to resume the Nuclear Agreement relaunch signed with the big powers, given the installation of the new Iranian president, the ultra-conservative Ebrahim Raisi. - The US Navy developed an unmanned aircraft with solar energy. The drone’s name is Skydweller and it was built by Skydweller Aero and can fly up to 90 days. It will be used in research mission and will be a platform for the military communications.
- Ebrahim Raisi, the 8th president of Iran. Ebrahim Raisi took the oath on Thursday, in Parliament’s building, becoming the 8th president of Iran. Raisi won the July 18th elections with 62% of the votes, while the voters’ presence was only 48.8%. (AP)
- Russian troops dislocated at the border of Armenia with Azerbaijan. Russian troops from the peace maintenance forces were dislocated at the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, after the tensions’ increase between the two camps. (TASS)
Romania’s defence and security
- Commemoration of Romanian heroes at Marasesti, Soveja and Foscani. Military ceremonies will be organized today in Vrancea (Marasesti, Soveja, Foscani) for the commemoration of the heroic fights that happened 104 years ago, in the First World War, in the summer of 1917, on the Marasti-Marasesti-Oituz front. - Romania and Canada are strenghtening nuclear cooperation. Energy Minister Virgil Popescu and Canadian Ambassador to Romania Annick Goulet, on behalf of the Canadian Minister of Mineral Resources, Seamus O'Regan Jr., in the presence of Prime Minister Florin Citu, signed on Thursday the Memorandum of Understanding completed between the Romanian Ministry of Energy and Canadian Department of Natural Resources on strengthening cooperation in the field of Civil Nuclear Energy. Canadian partners will be involved in the Cernavoda nuclear projects and in those in the Romanian civil nuclear energy sector. (Press release)
- Romanian firefighters help Greece put out fires. The terrestrial forest firefighting assistance module leaves Romania for Greece on Friday, comprising, among others, 112 firefighters, 23 special vehicles, a command center and four multi-risk containers with equipment. (IGSU)
- Fire in Mehedinti, at an ecological landfill. A fire engulfed the Halanga ecological landfill, near the town of Drobeta-Turnu Severin, on Thursday evening. (Aleph News)
