Coronavirus and vaccines
- Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 7.000 people got vaccinated. Totally, more than 5 million people got the vaccine, with more than 4,8 getting both doses.
- Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 152 new SARS CoV-2 cases, no deaths, and in ICU there are now 59 people hospitalized.
Global political and military events
- The US, Great Britain and Israel are accusing Iran for the attack that killed a Romanian sailor. The US State Secretary, Antony Blinken, and the prime-ministers of Great Britain and Israel have accused Iran for the drone attack that took place on Friday morning, in the Arabian Sea, over the tanker Mercer Street, which led to the death of two sailors, a Romanian and a British one. - Lukasenko tried to abduct an athlete from the Olympic Games. The Byelorussian athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who criticized the regime and the official sportsmen, was taken by force, on Sunday, to the airport in the middle of the Olympic games by the representatives of the national team of Belarus. The athlete is now under the protection of the Tokyo police. (Mediafax)
- Tourists evacuated by boats from a beach in the Bodrum station, Turkey. Tourists, the hospitality personal and inhabitants were evacuated, by boats, after the forests’ fire isolated them on a beach in the Aergean Sea. (AP)
- August 2nd - Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. 500.000 Roma, at least a quarter of the total Roma population at that time, was killed in Europe by the Nazi regime. Through the April 15th 2015 Resolution, the European Parliament established August 2nd as the `Roma Holocaust Memorial Day` (Europe’s Council).
- The Russian Armed Forces will get the S-500 missiles from 2022. The Russian Defense Minister has signed a contract with the Almaz-Antey company for the first 10 S-500 aid defence systems, which will be delivered starting with 2022. (Military Leak)
- The Taliban took three big cities by assault. The Taliban fighters have initiated the assault at the end of last week on three big cities in the country, Kandahar, Lashkar Gah and Heart, without managing to conquer them. (AP)
Romania’s defence and security
- Three earthquakes in Vaslui, on Sunday evening. The three earthquakes were produced in May in less than 30 minutes. The biggest one, of 4.2, took place at a 15 km depth. (Aleph News)
- Fire alert at the Otopeni Airport in the boarding area. The Otopeni Airport Director, Cosmin Pestesan: “There is no fire. At 7pm, there was an alert from a technical area, at an energy bank, due to the strain. There was no flame but all passengers were evacuated”. (Aleph News)
