Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 84.000 people got vaccinated (more than 29.000 with both doses). Totally, more than 3,1 million people got the vaccine, more than 1,8 million with both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 2.019 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 172 deaths and in ICU there are now 1.336 people hospitalized.

Global political and military events

  • An American ship entered the Black Sea. The patrol ship of the Coast Guard USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) passed, on April 27th, through the Bosporus Strait, and entered the Black Sea, according to a US Marine press release.
  • US-Russia summit. The Biden administration is working to prepare a high-level summit with Russia, says CNN. The US would like a more stable and predictable Russia.
  • The US Marine fired warning shots over Iranian boats. The US Marine fired, on Monday evening, warning shots in the Persian Gulf against three speed boats of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy , which got too close to the military ship.

Romania’s defence and security

  • The protection of Romanian citizens working abroad. In today’s government meeting, the Executive plans on approving an emergency ordinance which amends and completes the Law on the protection of Romanian citizens working abroad.
  • Minister Bogdan Aurescu is visiting Hungary. The minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurecu, is visiting, on Wednesday, Gyula, Hungary, for consultations with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, for signing the necessary documents to develop bilateral relations and to meet with representatives of the Romanian community from this country, says MFA.
  • The launch of the Security Barometer of Romania. The Center for Sociological Research LARICS is launching, today, the Security Barometer of Romania, an exhaustive sociological study which analyses Romanians’ views on national security given the regional context, the trust in the institutional space and the familiarity level of Romanians with the regional public agenda.
