Coronavirus and vaccines

  • Vaccination in Romania: In the last 24 hours, more than 56.000 people got vaccinated (more than 28.000 with both doses). More than 2.2 million people got the vaccine in Romania so far, with 1.4 million getting both doses.
  • Coronavirus in Romania: In the last 24 hours, there were recorded 3.302 new SARS CoV-2 cases, 129 deaths and in ICU there are now 1.531 people hospitalized.
  • Today, more than 500.000 Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines will arrive in Romania. A new batch of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which consists in 511.290 doses, is arriving, on Monday, to Romania, the vaccines being delivered through air to Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara airports, says the National Committee for the Coordination of COVID-19 Vaccination Activities.
  • Romanians’ interest in vaccination is decreasing and so is the number of those who are on the waiting lists, says Mediafax. If so far we constantly had more than 700.000 people on the waiting lists, the number has started to decrease. Now we have less than 600.000 on the waiting lists. 500.000 of these are waiting to get the Pfizer vaccines, 25.000 the Moderna ones and 8.500 the AstraZeneca vaccine. Also, there are more than 65.000 available places in the centers where AstraZeneca vaccine is being administrated.

Global political and military events

  • North Korea is getting ready to launch ballistic missiles from submarines. North Korea has built a new submarine which can launch at least three ballistic missiles, says The Straits Times. The submarine could be similar to the Russian one from the Romeo class, built in the Soviet era, and the tests could start soon, also said the quoted source.
  • British military help Ukraine to monitor the Russian troops. British soldiers dislocated in Ukraine are helping Ukrainian soldiers to monitor the Russian troops dislocated at the border, says mirror.co.uk. A small group of British military form the SOF, together with communication specialists were already dislocated in Ukraine, also said the quoted source.
  • The United States are warning Russia and China given the amplification of Ukraine and Taiwan crises. Antony Blinken, the US State Secretary, in an interview for the NBC News channel, said, on Sunday, that there will be consequences if Russia is irrationally or aggressively acting in Ukraine of if China will attack Taiwan.

Romania’s defence and security

  • April 12th - The International Day of Human Space Flight. On April 12th 2021 we celebrate the “The International Day of Human Space Flight”, established by the UN General Assembly through the 65/271 Resolution from April 7th 2011.
  • BSE won 800 million RON last week. The Bucharest Stock Exchange won last week 800 million RON from capitalization, respectively 0.44% and the value of transactions with stocks recorded a decrease with 0.85% comparing to the previous week, says Agerpress.
